[topic]NEW YORK—Retired United Nations staff member Mansour Faridi, 74, commented on the importance of understanding Chinese culture after watching Shen Yun Performing Arts at Lincoln Center Sunday.

The New York-based company’s mission is to tour the world reviving traditional Chinese culture, which was nearly lost when the Chinese communist regime took power.

Mr. Faridi, who was responsible for putting together cultural displays in the General Assembly exhibition space, noted the prominence of the Chinese language in the UN. “At the United Nations, the Chinese language is one of the main five languages,” he said.

“I think the Chinese civilization is very, very good,” he said after watching the performances. He agreed that it is important to revive the traditions that have been lost.

Anetta Pearson, a journalist from Budapest, Hungary, who now lives on Long Island, attended Sunday evening’s performance with her mother.

“We love the show very much,” said Ms. Pearson.

[topic]“I like every different kind of culture and I have never seen Asian culture,” said Ms. Pearson, explaining what drew her to Shen Yun. She takes an interest in other cultures, living in such a multi-cultural city, “We live in New York, there are a lot of different people living here.”

Shen Yun Performing Arts, based in New York, has three touring companies that perform simultaneously around the world, with a mission to revive traditional Chinese culture. Upcoming performances in the United States include Chattanooga, Tennessee on April 24, and Columbus, Ohio on April 26 and April 27.
