[topic]SYDNEY—Lawyer Scott Harris said Shen Yun Performing Arts was “spectacular” after watching the show at Sydney’s Capitol Theatre with his mother.
Speaking during intermission at Tuesday night’s performance on May 1, Mr. Harris said he was most impressed with the costumes, and the athletic movement of the dancers.
The show was “very colourful, very easy on the eye, and very spectacular,” Mr. Harris said.
Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company now performing in Sydney is one of three companies touring the world. Shen Yun draws from 5,000 years of Chinese culture to produce a vibrant performance of classical Chinese dance, ethnic dance and live music.
Performed in front of cutting edge digital backdrops, the acts bring to life ancient myths and legends, different Chinese dynasties, and the culture and individual flair of various ethnic groups across China.
Shen Yun movements also explore modern human rights themes, such as the Chinese regime’s persecution of the popular Chinese spiritual discipline, Falun Dafa. One act depicting this persecution resonated with Mr. Harris.
While he said he “liked them all,” he made particular mention of The Choice, a dance movement where the friendship of two good friends, a young man and a woman, is tested after one becomes a policeman, and the other takes up Falun Dafa.
“It was interesting to see how it was portrayed,” Mr. Harris said.
He said the movements were smooth and well synchronised.
“[It] must be very difficult,” Mr. Harris said. “Obviously very disciplined and very impressive to pull that together.”
His mother Colleen Harris said she had “enjoyed everything in the show so far, and wished for more freedom in China.
“Obviously they’re a very well trained classical group,” Ms. Harris said. “A very, very enjoyable show. I loved it.”
