The December solstice is on either December 20, 21, 22 or 23. It is called Winter Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, where it is the shortest day of the year. 2014 Ursids meteor shower
The Ursids will peak on December 22 and 23 in 2014. This year, the meteor shower will also coincide with a new Moon and the December solstice. The new Moon will create perfect viewing conditions for those in the Northern Hemisphere.
The Ursids meteor shower is active annually between December 17 and December 23. The shower usually peaks around December 21 or 22. At its peak, obeservers may be able to view as many as 10 meteors in an hour
