Strong long duration M6,9 solar flare and Earth directed CME around the sunspots AR2241 & AR2242 

LARGE SUNSPOTS: A pair of large sunspots has emerged in the sun’s southern hemisphere, and they are almost directly facing Earth.

Approximate Flare Maximum: 18-12-2014 2158 UT at Flux M 6.9
Approximate Flare End : 18-12-2014 2255 UT

Both of these active regions have unstable ‘beta-gamma-delta’ magnetic fields that harbor energy for strong explosions. NOAA forecasters estimate a 65% chance of M-flares and a 15% chance of X-flares on Dec. 18th & 19th.
Because these spots are centrally located on the solar disk, any flares will likely be Earth-directed.
