After a very challenging few weeks I have finally come to the realization that I give too much. Somewhere along the line I adopted the theory that because I called myself a “Spiritual Person” that the majority of my time was to be filled with giving in one manor or another. Until I realized there needs to be a balance.
Unless my cup is overflowing I have nothing to offer another…
Many who know me personally or maybe even just via social media can probably see that I have dedicated my life to serving others, providing my close friends, family and masses via social media, daily inspiration and tools for self-actualization and personal freedom. But this has seemed to come at a very large expense. The expense of my own health and well-being.
Since I have been a young boy I have always lived from my heart. Offering myself up where ever I could. Which lead to many challenges and lots of pain. Most people weren’t used to living from this space or ready to receive. Not much has changed, at least in my personal life.
Social Media provides us with a great platform to spread love and inspiration which is very well received and rarely poo poohed upon. However in the “real world” people seem to be less expressive, more guarded and less likely to be open to receiving. At least in my experience.
When you become a grounded spiritual being and source of inspiration you seem to be perceived as an open door or as in my title so boldly suggests a “garbage can” where people dump their spiritual garbage on you and expect that you drop everything and bring them peace. And when you don’t show up the way they expect you to… LOOK OUT!
People reach out to us for guidance and expect that we provide them with the solution to their challenge and as Spiritual Compassionate people we do our best, however what needs to be realized is this:
1. Spiritual People are also Human
2. Our Guidance is an invitation to self- inquiry.
3. Take what resonates and leave the rest
4. Sometimes a mirror will be held up that you’re not ready to receive that’s not our business
5. Do not hold us accountable for what you think we should or shouldn’t have done
6. Our personal lives and boundaries are to respected
7. The guidance we offer is offered with the intent for the highest good of all
And finally…
8. We are not a Spiritual Garbage Can
Our intent as Spiritual People is to offer up the inspiration and wisdom to guide you within, towards self-actualization and self-healing. If you just continue to drop off your garbage with us and never truly utilize the tools in which we provide to do your own work. Then you will constantly be chasing the horizon and our relationship will become nothing but a codependent garbage man and garbage can. This in the end leaves both of us suffering because there is only so much garbage someone can take, regardless of how spiritually grounded they are.
So my suggestion is to lighten up on your spiritual teachers, friends and family. Yes we are here to be a light but at the same time we know everything and nothing all at once. Allow us to be your guide however let go of the expectation of how that looks and stop holding us accountable for what you think we should or shouldn’t have done.
