This has happened with Ross in the past. He has been in the mix for several GM jobs since the Giants won Super Bowl XLII. The Seahawks, Colts and Bears all passed on him in recent years. This newest rumor looks to be serious, however. From Rotoworld.com:
(Panthers GM Marty) Hurney was fired in October, and Brandon Beane has held down the fort as interim GM in the meantime. Former longtime Giants GM Ernie Accorsi is leading Panthers owner Jerry Richardson’s GM search, so it’s probably not surprising that the first place Accorsi looked was inside the organization he knows best. Ross has been Giants college scouting director for five seasons, and it’s fair to argue that no team has drafted better during that span than the G-Men
