(Before It's News)

Location of Sighting: Capel Seion, Aberystwyth
Date of Sighting: August 13th 2012
Time: 22.00-23.15
Witness Name: Scott Bennett-Cat Powell

Witness Statement: We were travelling by bicycle up the small lane towards Moriah just outside Aberystwyth just after the sun had gone below the horizon when my girlfriend and I stopped in a small lay by for a moment to rest. The sky was almost clear blue with just a few small clouds close to the horizon. As we looked out to appreciate the view we noticed a momentary flash on the horizon (aproximately north of the Rheidol Valley and east of Borth). This flash was very bright and yellowish in colour causing a large area to light up to almost the intensity of daylight. There was no noise or storm clouds and the light was not of that nature (I have seen lightening from varying distances and altitudes and this appeared quite different). We watched these flashes re-occur at 40-60 second intervals for around 20 minutes. The flashes seemed each time to occur in roughly the same part of the sky. We noticed that the flashes really seemed to upset animals in our vicinity who became rather noisy with each flash. We cycled back to Capel Seion where I currently reside. By this time (22.45) it was fully dark and much of the sky was clear. As my girlfriend and I looked up we saw a bright white object- maybe four times the size of a bright star cross the sky from West to East. It was difficult to say how high, but I would judge it to be in the thousands of feet. The object had no typical aircraft lights and as it passed over we saw both shooting stars and commercial aircraft with which to directly compare it with. The object travelled with a slightly perceptable wobble quite rapidly across the sky (faster than an aircraft, much slower than a shooting star- the speed seemed to vary) We actually saw the object vanish to the east. Intrigued my girlfriend and I then went into a nearby field away from light pollution of residential buildings. Whilst stood in the field we noticed an object (slightly larger than a star) to the north which we believed to have risen over the horizon. It was white with a slight red/green hue. It began to wobble up and down, side to side and forward and back with ever increasing speed. The maneuvers covered perhaps 30 degrees of the sky. The faster the object moved the brighter it seemed. Beneath this object there were four very large intermittent flashes (which lit up much of the horizon) whose intensity were at their greatest directly beneath the object (though did not appear to directly emanate from it). These flashes were similar to the flashes we had seen earlier though the first of these latest flashes was blue in colour. Feeling rather scared by the strange object my girlfriend and I left the field and when we returned minutes later (with dutch courage) the object had vanished. If anybody can explain, or at least saw some of this, please contact me as I am totally baffled!
