I spent a mellow day playing video games and poking around the house.
Sometime this afternoon, mild breezes began to blow– and I felt drawn outside. I felt that subtle quickening within, the stirring of deeper things inside waiting to join some primal dance. There was just the hint of autumn in the wind: dust, ripe fruit, yellow stalks, the very first dying leaves. I am truly autumn's child. Without fail I get a burst of energy and excitement from autumn's approach. My favorite period of the year is mid-Augest to mid-November.
I seem to feel it more keenly this year as opposed to my first 2 autumns at White Gables. I don't know why. Maybe its processing our harvest with a much bigger garden than last year that's doing it. Or maybe its simply that we had more of a summer this year than last.
Meanwhile, Joanne made us some banana-bread! YUM! My favorite! I like this good neighbor thing!
Gerick came home from his weekend back-packing and camping trip– limping. Next to no hiking all summer, and then he goes and climbs a mountain– over 4000 feet at a steady, steep climb! *shakes head* I would like to join him for such adventures, but not at that level. I'm not in nearly good enough shape to attempt that sort of challenge, and anyway a couple of days' break from one another sometimes can be a good thing.
