One thing I haven't gotten around to discussing yet regarding our night out to see Beats Antique– how different our reception was at the Crystal Ballroom as opposed to the last time I went a year ago.
You know times are changing when…
No sooner had we had our tickets swiped then we had to line up to be frisked!! They had young men and women standing just inside the door past the ticket-takers, and I let them check my jacket (since I don't carry a purse). But then I got a full body pat down! If I hadn't been in a great mood and tipsy from a couple of cocktails in the bar right before, I may have been more disturbed than I was. It was such a surprise and happened so fast that I didn't have much of a chance to process and respond. The pat down revealed I had something in my pocket– my little wallet. I had to pull it out and OPEN it for her to check!
I've been to several dance parties and a couple of shows at The Crystal Ballroom, and never before have I been frisked. Yet another example of how civil rights like privacy are just disappearing as time moves along. Will I be getting frisked at every event where there may be a crowd? I'm beginning to wonder if I'll get frisked when I go to see The Hobbit tomorrow!
I'm not saying I don't get why companies would want to frisk people. However, given that thousands and thousands of innocent children will die by motor vehicle accidents, the overly-emotional response of fear towards the remote possibility that a crazed gunman could attack seems out of proportion to reality. But that's how these things go. Perception and the management of perception is what counts– not reality.
