Writing Projects For Next 2 Months

Friday, October 4, 2013 10:52

(Before It's News)

My personal posts will probably of necessity be a bit less consistent for the next 2 months because I'll be working on 2 big projects:

1. I intend to spend this month of October writing at least 2 posts per week about past abduction experiences from 1990 to 1995 or so.

I've had that particular incomplete writing project hanging over my head for several months now. I took a break because I wasn't ready to get into it. I suppose writing about the next segment of memories is hard because that period is when the most incredible and bizarre abductions took place. Though this set of memories has been sitting there in my mind for many years, and I have discussed them with several people, I have never fully faced them on some level. Writing them out means re-living them to some extent, and, as with writing about the first time I saw a grey while wide awake and then the subsequent virgin miscarriage, there is a part of me that really hesitates to do so. I mean, I've written about them before, long ago in hand-written journals, but somehow going over it all again for Livejournal is just a more powerful experience.

In any event, I shall look upon it as an exercise in facing and besting writer's blocks. For me, I don't have 'blocks' in the normal sense. I can always think of many new things for scenes in fiction writing. No, its more about my fear of being exposed that tends to make me just not sit down and settle and WRITE. I figure if I can write the next few year's worth of abduction memories, writing silly fiction will be a snap.

Which brings me to –

2. November I'll attempt for a second time to complete the NaNoWriMo project. This time, I'll be completing my earlier project, Fear In Forsaken, based in part on experiences and stories I heard while living in Ohio.

I already have several bits and pieces of 12 short stories written up– altogether they will complete a novel length complimentary group of stories centered around a weird location in Ohio. The Hocking Hills. Characters will be based loosely (or even closely) to several people I knew while I lived there. Odd events are also based on true stories– BUT! In fiction, you get to create meaning out of things which normally have no answers, which is part of the fun, of course. In real life, you're left dangling, but in narratives you get a “the end” at some point. Anyway, this month I'm reading everything written by H.P. Lovecraft in preparation and as inspiration, because my set of stories is essentially Lovecraftian fan fiction. Not based in the Cthulhu mythos or anything, but more like the style and mood and settings are similar, though in Ohio back hills instead of Massachusetts back hills.

Naturally, next month my posts here will be mostly short and I'll probably skip a few days here and there. Never fear, I'll be back again in December, doubtless bemoaning the holidays or some such. My hope is that between this months writing and next months that I shall feel triumphant against my own personal dread procrastination curse. Then I shall be quite jolly regardless of what form the holidays take for me by the end of the year.

Wish me luck!
