Prep/Transition News Updates!

(Before It's News)

Its the first of the month, and long past time to update everyone on more trends in Prep and Transition. Just a couple of days ago I mentioned a couple of news items involving Tiny Houses, and over the next few days I'm going to address several other tidbits that may be of interest to some of my readers.

This came out many months ago and I just never got around to reporting on it. One thing is certain– the notion that things are changing and need to change regarding how we live and do business and government is spreading. For example, going one step beyond “sustainability” which means no growth, there are those advocating for shrinkage, which is a hard sell in our culture. They're calling it “De-growth.”

charleshughsmith.blogspot.com/2013/05/degrowth-anti-consumerism-and-peak.html

De-growth has 7 major views:

1. Consumerism is bad for us ultimately.
2. Quality rather than quantity.
3. Resources are not infinite.
4. We can't base our economy on resources that are shrinking.
5. Consumption has increasingly diminishing returns.
6. Both Capitalism AND Communism have utterly failed us in pursuing growth alike at all costs.
7. We're reached peak consumption and must prepare to live on less.

Its worth reading about this in more detail at the link and its a short article. C.H. Smith puts his own spin on it in the end, but I don't disagree with his perspective, which looks at things from the more purely financial side of things.

I'm absolutely behind De-growth myself of course. Hell, I'm LIVING it and have been for the last decade and a half– and at first against my will, but now enthusiastically. A scaled-down life is much easier to manage and maintain, and the security and freed-up time you get in return is well worth it.

Meanwhile, I've finished catching up what I wanted to write about for January, so if you want to scroll down, I promise I don't have any more back dated entries for that month to make now. Its been a very odd couple of weeks for me, and I'm finally finding my focus again it seems.
