This last year was a year of progression, though not all lessons learned were pleasant. Still– all in all, we're moving forward and getting our priorities lined up, fixing those glitches that could spell future doom and so forth…
The number one goal in the coming year is to find and purchase our next homestead– the first that we will own. There are many possibilities out there and we've expanded our search area. We have a couple who will be partners with us (work and paying lot rent) who share our goals and values, so that is a big help for certain. Though Gerick and I will be owners and lion's share of both power and responsibility, we won't be entirely alone to begin this venture.
Will Tad & Darcy stick around for the long haul, or is this experiment a short term fling with possibility? Luckily, the course they've chosen, to tread the Tiny House lifestyle, means that if things ever don't work in the future, they are free to pick up and haul on out for greener (or at least further) pastures. This seems a sensible solution to possible break ups. They have their freedom, but in the meantime, we're sharing resources and mutually supporting one another.
Once said homestead is procured, and we've moved out to it, we'll be mainly planting trees, shrubs, vines, and perennials. We may do a seasonal garden as well, but that's not for sure. I honestly think we'll have plenty to do, but the nice thing about having 2 more people around is that what is nearly impossible to do with 2 adults is easier with 4.
Next year will begin the real project with a rotating garden/crop/feedlot system and possible livestock like goats being added to the animal mix. But first things first. What we must focus on really depends upon what we're able to find as a homestead and what improvement and work needs to be done in our first year. I'm more optimistic that we won't have to settle upon what's kindly called a 'fixer-upper.' But we'll see!
Regardless, homestead settlement will be the focus of 2015 for the most part. Meeting a whole new set of neighbors and finding more local friends wherever we land will also be a priority. I'd like to find some friendly prepping pagans if possible, but who knows?
On a personal level, I need to find my center again. I'm hoping that finding a new home and feeling like I have some sway over my life again will help. I let things get to me and became far too grumpy as soon as things didn't go my way last year. Like I said before, not proud of that! On the other hand, I did a better job at problem solving and holding my own during this last period of upset than in periods past. I'm getting there, slowly but surely. I believe I will probably begin practicing rituals and meditation again more actively than I have in a few years. I need help to center myself, as do most people- no shame in that.
I look forward to a year of action and progression. It will help to keep me going in the face of what may be a rocky year for most people as recession or domestic upheaval become more of an issue across the world including our own backyards here in the U.S..
