Friday Gaming Night & Yardwork

(Before It's News)

Cat is one of a rather large group of board gamers (the adventurous, complicated kind– beyond checkers and monopoly) that meet semi-regularly and help sell games at gaming conventions.

Recently, she started meeting with the female gamers every Friday night and I was invited along last night. I met Judy, Kim, and Mags and we had dinner, drinks and played The Red Dragon Inn for the evening. (Its an elimination game, where a group of adventurers, relaxing at an inn, drink and gamble until only one is left with gold and consciousness!) Lots of fun and when I started role-playing my character as we played, everyone laughed and started doing the same thing. I now think I want to buy that game!

The place we did this was a combination board game selling store and restaurant with tons of large tables and rooms for people to gather, eat, drink, and play games for hours if they wish. They actually have free games available to check out while you dine, or you can bring your own. Of course, if people find games they like– they're available for sale… so convenient!

I mentioned to Cat that this type of establishment, people socializing with board and card games while being able to eat and drink, was something I could envision for the post-fossil fuel world. No electronics required!

I wasn't sure I'd be up for it. I'm really tired these days from all the unpacking and such I've been doing, and I was also a bit reluctant to socialize with people I either didn't know or barely did (I'd met Judy before at Cat's birthday tea party some years ago.) But it was just fine and I had a really great time! This may well become a regular part of my schedule.

Meanwhile, most of today was spent helping Cat do yardwork in the front yard. Since Sharn's cancer diagnosis, several domestic activities got neglected, and many chores went undone for too long. By early evening, though, things were back in order up front, and I'm sure the proper yuppie neighbors were massively relieved! I was just concerned that plant overgrowth on the walkway, and debris built up on the driveway were safety concerns for both Sharn (who has a very unsteady gait) and myself (bad tendons/ligaments that are too easily injured.) We have to make this home more friendly for those with physical issues, and today was a big step.

Once again, I'm really tired, but feeling pretty accomplished overall. Tomorrow I sit on my ass ALL DAY.
