My roomies and I have been doing 2 Blue Apron meals a week. Its perfect! Not only practice cooking, but also get a chance to try nutritious new foods that maybe you've never been exposed to before.
Well– tonight's dish was a broccoli-red quinoa (pronounced “keen-WAH”) and white kidney bean pressed into a burger-like patty with potato wedges and pickles. I'm a picky eater and don't even like broccoli much, but it was very tasty and I was happily digging in, along with Sharn. The weird part is that about halfway through, my eyes started to itch and water, my nose did the same, and my throat began to wheeze! THEN SHARON STARTED SNEEZING over and over!
We were both having histamine reactions to something we were eating!
The only ingredient (all-natural and organic) that we had not been exposed to before was the red quinoa. It was rather strange. I was just fine and then — suddenly I had to get up and grab a box of tissues because I was just weeping irritated tears and my face and throat itched. I started coughing, then when she sneezed, we realized what was happening and stopped eating our meals. Cat brought us both anti-histamines and within 10 minutes the reactions started subsiding. We also didn't eat any more.
That's the first time I've ever had an allergic reaction to food! I am making note of it here in case it comes up again:
RED QUINOA seems to be something may be allergic to.
