Post-SHTF hemorrhoids…….

(Before It's News)

People laugh at the word and likely when you read the title you thought to yourself……”What? Is Rourke being serious? Is he really writing about ‘hemorrhoids’ of all things after the SHTF? Is this really on a preparedness website?

Yes, it is.

Nearly 1 in 5 of us will discover the uncomfortable reality that we have hemorrhoids. In a post-SHTF situation dealing with hemorrhoids won’t be pleasant and some preparation ahead of time will help tremendously.

So – what are hemorrhoids? Well, they are a real pain in the….uh……lets move on. Hemorrhoids are swollen veins in the…..anus. Please excuse me as I know you may have questioned reading this and I am questioning actually writing it – but its important. The veins become swollen and enlarged. There are two types – internal and external. By their names you can probably guess their location in relation to the…….{clear throat}…….anus.

I am no doctor but from my research there is no specific known cause of hemorrhoids. Often straining excessively during a…..bowel movement can inflame the…..”area”. It is not uncommon for pregnant women to develop the condition. Internal hemorrhoids often result in pain and itching, along with some bleeding. External hemorrhoids are more painful as inflamed, swollen tissue actually hangs out of the anus.

So – how are they treated? Again – I am no doctor so in a modern, civilized world if you find yourself within grasp of a hemorrhoid (not talking about your mother-in-law) – see a doctor. Treatment at home begins with healthy bowel movements. Diarrhea can inflame the situation. Keeping the…..area…….clean via wet wipes or baby wipes helps. Soaking in a bath also helps. It is important to try not to touch the affected area as additional inflammation can occur.

Pain can be treated with Tylenol. Both pain and inflammation can be treated with Ibuprofen. Ice on the affected area helps reduce the swelling. “Ice on the affected area…..” Brrrrrrrrrrr……

From talking to people who have had hemorrhoids they often talk about the need for time to heal. They keep clean, they have little physical activity, and they soak often. A few tubes of Preparation H would be a good idea to put in the medical supplies tote.

I cannot speak from personal experience - but rather what I have read and what people have told me.

Anyone out there willing to share their experience?
