Barack Obama and the UN ATT

Some would say Barack Obama gives entirely too much free reign to the UN and its policies others might praise him for “working on a more global stage”. One thing is certain when it comes to the gun community (aside from the fact that Barack Obama is the sales man of the year for guns), it only took a matter of hours after the initial election results came through for the UN committee heading the UN ATT to come out and proclaim that it was ready to reopen talks with the Obama administration about instituting an international “treaty” regarding exportation and global gun sales.

Now, many Obama supporters who also happen to be gun rights advocates would say: “the president has done nothing to take away gun rights, and perhaps is even more gun right conservative than Mitt Romney”. The NRA would disagree.

Barack Obama UN ATT

What is the UN ATT?

You may recall our article on the UN arms trade treaty sometime back (located HERE). In it we talked about the looming global regulation on the 70+ billion dollar global arms trade. Back then in our original article we joked that the hard right and extreme conservatives might have it wrong. After all Obama himself in his own words had made it clear that such a treaty would not be supported by the United States if it infringed on the second amendment rights of its citizens. A lot has changed since then.

In the recent debate prior to the presidential election Mr. President made it clear that he intended to work on gun control issues up to and including regulation on “cheap handguns in cities” and “an assault weapons ban”. Between his first statements on the UN ATT, and the most recent press surrounding this landmark “treaty”, Barack Obama assumed the position within the UN to head a committee. Some constitutional scholars would say that is an act of treason, others would openly admit it’s a bad decision and a conflict of interest. Perhaps an upcoming impeachment process will be opened; who’s to say?

In late March at the UN general assembly the disarmament committee passed this “treaty” with a 157 votes in favor, zero votes against and 18 abstentions to the vote. Notably Russia abstained. Yes, the very same Russia headed by the very same president, who our president said “I’ll have more flexibility after my election” (when referring to nuclear talks).

Barack Obama doesn’t need the UN ATT to sell record amounts of guns!

Since the election gun sales have skyrocketed with some gun stores reporting 250% sales gains in the short period of time following the elections. Now admittedly, the UN arms trade treaty as it stands, really does have little to do with second amendment rights: at least overtly. Rather it focuses on the exportation of American made firearms to other countries, where much wider scale atrocities occur down on the mastic soil, according to the liberal media. I would actually tend to agree that the UN arms trade treaty on its surface, doesn’t directly affect second amendment rights, however in the fine details and ridiculous non-useful changes to the manufacturing and tracking of firearms which Americans will have access to, the UN arms trade treaty is absolutely detrimental to the continuing protection of our second amendment rights.

So it is curious, that major arms exporters like China and Russia at are allowed to manipulate their positions in the UN ATT to support their fiscal needs, but we are urged to support such an “treaty”.

Both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, not to mention the rest of the world, knows that a UN ATT without the support of the United States is useless. With the amount of exports in the firearms industry that the United States is responsible for, and the amount of money that it represents to American companies, without US support, this “treaty” is dead in the water.

Under heavy pressure from the Benghazi scandal, Hillary Clinton has played under the radar, presumably to avoid being tainted more heavily by this conspiracy and in hopes that she can mount a sustainable run for the White House in 2016. She has made it clear she endorses the UN ATT, and will do what she can to put it into play. Barack Obama hadn’t been, at least not publicly, in favor of the UN ATT, but his remarks at the most recent to debates make it pretty clear he has a large interest in gun control legislation in the second four years of his eight year term.

Barack Obama Contacted about the UN ATT moments after voting results

It comes as no shock, and no coincidence that within hours of his reelection (before the votes were all even counted), the UN special committee has gotten in touch with the US president to see about re-convening on the matter of the UN ATT.

Look to these pages for future articles to keep you posted on the progress of the United Nations small arms treaty and on ways you can support second amendment rights and help to ensure the future of gun ownership in the United States and abroad where it makes sense.
