We posted on our Facebook page:
Jennifer Amaral asked below: “In the case of a survival situation, where you are trekking through the wilderness in the snow, what are the best kind of boots to be wearing?”
Some comments we received:
Comment #2: Snowboarding boots are super warm and water proof.
Comment #3: I use the white or black micky mouse boots. the white ones are for colder temps. I used them when I lived in Alaska. The only time my feet were gold is when it droped to -55 plus wind chill. I worked out side for 8 to 10 hours each day.
Comment #4: Depends on your latitude. (How long will snow remain? How long do temps stay below freezing?) Ideally, GoreTex boots with insulation (Thinsulate, etc.). Whatever the case, if you’re trekking, you will need snowshoes. Long periods of walking in snow is terribly exhausting. If snowshoes aren’t in the budget, you will have to learn the skills to bushcraft them.
