I’d like to relay a surreal conversation I had yesterday with someone. We were in a public place watching the news about the terrible shooting that took place in Newtown, CT. Our exchanges were like those you would expect, generally discussing what a terrible event it was and expressing sympathy for those poor families and children. Without warning the script got completely flipped and it happened. He stated the following: “I don’t even know why we allow these military weapons out on the street! You know I see these parents who take their kids to gun shows, or these parents who let their kids hold AR15′s, those are the kids who grow up to do stuff like this (pointing to the TV).
WOW.

Current events and opinion:
U.S. will go over the fiscal cliff and markets will force a deal: Nouriel ‘Dr. Doom’ Roubini
PJ: I don’t need an “expert” to tell me this, I’m already certain it will happen.
Newtown shootings: if not now, when is the time to talk about gun control?
PJ: First of all, is this guy even an American citizen? Secondly, while I’ve written more than once about how tragic this is and how I feel for those involved, it doesn’t make sense to me how these gun control advocates come up with their rationale for demanding action. Every day in America: 27 people die from drunk driving and 4 children die from child abuse or neglect. An average of 13,698 children under 5 years old die PER DAY in developed countries around the world due to under-nutrition. Where is the constant media attention for those tragic events?
Can Facebook Make You Fat and Poor?
PJ: I wouldn’t know, I don’t have a Facebook account (or Twitter).
Drought expands in many farm states
PJ: These states are in an extreme/severe drought condition, which will have a direct effect on food prices (and many other things).
