Hopefully we all go to bed on Friday, Dec 21, 2012 chuckling a little bit to ourselves, another doomsday prophesy proven false because the Mayan long count calender theory and all of the other end of the world theories (galactic alignment, solar flares etc) failed to manifest themselves. I say hopefully because personally I am still concerned about that date and you should be too. While the Mayans and their theories aren’t high on my list of concerns I do worry about crazy people or even rogue organizations trying to bring about doomsday through their own efforts. Consider this: Dec 21, 2012 has been shrouded in mystery and legend for many years. From a crazed lunatic or terrorist perspective, what better day than doomsday to carry out some sort of event to solidify a place on the psycho wall of fame? As recent events have demonstrated the world isn’t experiencing a shortage of motivated deranged/sick individuals.
As you are well aware yesterday a crazed gunman opened fire in a Connecticut school, killing 26 people (including 20 children).
Just a few days ago a shooter opened fire in a shopping mall in Oregon, killing two people.
In November a gunman stormed a Sikh Temple in Wisconsin, killing 6 and then himself.
This past July a gunman opened fire in a theater in Colorado, killing 12 and wounding 53.
Over 53 terrorist plots have been foiled since September 11, 2001 (and that’s just the number that we know of). Most recently a Bangladeshi citizen arrived on US soil with the sole purpose of carrying out an attack.
Nafis allegedly considered and surveilled multiple targets in Manhattan’s financial district, including the New York Stock Exchange, before settling on the Federal Reserve Bank. Undercover agents supplied Nafis with 20 50-pound bags of explosives. Nafis then purchased components for the weapons detonator and assembled what he believed to be a 1,000-pound bomb inside a van in a nearby warehouse. In discussing the attack, Nafis indicated that he had a “Plan B” that entailed a suicide bombing in the event that the attack was about to be thwarted by police. Nafis further stated: “I came up to this conclusion that targeting America’s economy is most efficient way to draw the path of obliteration of America.”
As I type this there is a “satellite” orbiting our planet, placed there by North Korean 3 stage rocket.
While the North Koreans said that the launch was to put a satellite into orbit, Western experts agree that the same technological know-how provides the capability to send a warhead as far as the United States. With the knowledge of orbiting capability, experts say, such a power projection could could give North Korea the ability to reach even beyond California. An orbiting warhead could be placed anywhere and released on command to de-orbit and hit any location within the U.S. Or, North Korea could explode an orbiting warhead in the atmosphere some 150 miles above a target, creating an electromagnetic pulse that could knock out the highly vulnerable grid system of the U.S. Experts agree that such an EMP exploding high above Kansas, for example, would knock out a majority of America’s national grid system.
JWR over at Survivalblog even voiced his concern in a recent Odds’n Sods post.
Packin’ for the ‘pocalypse: Several readers have sent me letters with this theme: “Due to the erroneous Mayan prophecy date of December 21st, 2012, there is a strong possibility of some self-fulfilling prophecies on an individual level, such as suicides, murder-suicides, mass-suicides, or people ‘going postal’ in public places.” They recommend that everyone that has a CCW permit or that lives in a Constitutional Carry state to fully exercise their right to carry (and pack a few extra magazines) between now and December 31, 2012. That sounds wise to me!
Look the point of this post isn’t about fear mongering but rather about taking appropriate precautions based on some legitimate concerns. All year long (and many before that) we have been bombarded by Dec 21, 2012 documentaries, speculation and theories. The combination of that infamous date along with of the threats facing our country (both internal and external) suggest that taking a few steps to protect yourself and loved ones would be well advised. Here are a few tips for getting through doomsday.
1- Stay sober. The last thing you want is to party hard on the night of Dec 20, only to be confronted with some sort of even on Dec 21 while you are still hugging the porcelain throne.
2- Avoid large cities. I would stay out of the city, and stay away from large concentrations of people (e.g. shopping malls). If you do go out and are able to legally concealed carry, do so.
3- Pull out some cash. If you don’t already have some cash on hand, I would have (at minimum) a few hundred dollars on hand in small denominations.
4- Gas up your vehicles. Don’t be the guy who goes to sleep on Dec 20 with the low fuel light on in your car.
5- Conduct vehicle maintenance checks. Tires good on air, fluid levels are good to go etc.
6- Plan a light day. Personally I plan on staying home, firing up the grill and just hanging out.
7- Travel smart. If you are traveling to see relatives, make sure you have the appropriate gear with you.
8- Stay informed. Keep an eye on the local news, check your radio / TV / Smartphone throughout the day.
9- Inventory/arrange your gear. Is all of your Bugout gear in a huge unorganized pile in a hallway closet? Fix it.
10- Stay positive. Like FDR said, the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.
I sincerely hope Dec 21 is a non-event and on Dec 22 we can all breathe a sigh of relief, maybe many of you will leave comments following this post about how ridiculous it was for me to take the time to actually write this. However if you are reading this that means you are most likely a prepper and as such recognize that there are many real threats to our current way of life, why shouldn’t this be one of them? While I do hope that nothing bad happens, I was always taught that hope should never be considered a viable course of action. Remember, life isn’t fair…plan accordingly.

My 2 cents on the 2012 non-event. Enjoy:

Wirkbot has bigger issues to deal with than 2012.
“the Mayan long count calendar theory”
The Mayan calendar is not a theory, it is a precise and accurate tool but nowhere did the Mayans allude that this was the end of the world, just the end of the calendar,,,it resets at zero just like ours on January 1…. “Armageddon” is a myth fabricated by fear-mongering control freak Christians.
I pity those that fall pray to the psychotic church.
Wow, way to generalize. Not all Christians believe in this hogwash.
very good article even though i have no belief in myan or hopi beliefs in the apocalypse thing but i do think in places you will have some that want to usher in the last days by using dec. 21 prophesy.
I would prefer to think of it as the start of a new age. Love, peace and harmony, And why not we have all worked for it. The pulse of the earth increases. The energy from space increases. Its proved that our DNA is changing. We are becoming Homo Spiritus, as DR David Hawkins calls it. Its a new dawn of enlightenment for mankind. If anything happens its not going to happen now. Althoug a 700% increase in earthquakes is nothing to ignore. And everything listed above is wise. If something should happen or not.
Me, I will sit in meditation and expect to be thrust into a new dimension.
The fun stuff the dollar collapse, the war, the volcanos, the earthquakes will come probably between February and JUne. In our new state it will be easier to deal with. This is not over by a long shot.
peace and love to all
