Assault Weapons and the Prepper

  Prepper and the Assault Weapon

Let me go way out on a limb here and speculate that there are a few gun owners that read my blog. I call you “gun owners”, mostly because some of us get offended when we’re referred to as “gun nut’s”. Well? Anyone have a passion for good old firearms and all that go along with them?

Just as I thought… Most of you reading this have at least your share of the weapons know to be owned by the American populous. If we ask most of the politicians, they would say we own far more than our share. They might even ask us nice – “pretty please”, to turn in a few select specimens from our vast collections. Like the bumper sticker say – They can take our guns but they’re gonna get our bullets first…

There’s been a lot of talk lately about weapons bans and of course “responsible gun legislation”. Are we to believe that the politicians know anything fundamental about being responsible with anything, much less our gun rights? No, I think I’ll be opting out of all of that nonsense thanks!

Let’s for the sake of argument today assume that we all get to keep any assault weapons that we have and maybe even buy more, if we choose to do so. What do we need with these particular styles of weapons in our prepper arsenals? For the record, I don’t believe the weapons I’m describing in this post are “assault weapons”, I’m just using the term as a way to keep us all on the same page and I of course also know the difference between a “clip” and a “magazine”. I don’t want anyone new to Preppernation.com to think I’m some sort of newbie slacker by calling a semiautomatic firearm an “Assault Weapon”!

I propose that the role of the semiautomatic rifle/carbine when it comes to our preps is for home defense. Yes, we could use a shotgun or even our hunting rifles for this role but I maintain that a high capacity semiauto is the best choice!

When I was a youngster in my 20′s, during the early 1990′s, I was prepping with an eye on using semiautomatic “Assault Weapons” to repel what I believed was going to be an imminent threat by the United Nations (Blue Helmets) on American soil. It appeared to me the One World Government proponents were poised to make their play against American sovereignty. It was with this in mind that I stockpiled enough of these weapons to arm a small African nation.

I felt that it was my duty to put a semiauto in the hands of all my buddies that didn’t have enough commitment to their nation and their own survival,to go buy their own weapons. Well, needless to say, the globalists are still at it and have made plenty of headway over the last 2 decades but I’m no longer under any illusion that the American populous has any inclination to stand up for what’s right or in their own best interest when it comes to freedom. I submit the fact that we are now in President Obama’s second term with a national debt that is rocketing ever higher by the day. The President was elected by close to half of the voting Americans and the other half thought that Mitt Romney would have somehow been our savior. Sadly, I did vote for Mr. Romney but just like every other presidential vote I’ve cast in my entire lifetime, it was for the lesser of 2 evils. Voting for a socialist over a worse socialist or outright communist is what I’ve become accustomed to but it leaves me feeling disgusted.

All of this to say, I no longer have the view of stockpiling assault weapons that I held in my 20′s. In fact I’m not afraid to admit that dozens have been sold off over the last decade to fund other prepper projects, like the doomstead (BOL) for instance. Don’t get any ideas anyone, I said dozens have been sold off, not all of them have been sold off. I’m still more then ready for that rainy day that’s bound to come one of these decades soon!

So, if I don’t think that I need crates and crates full of semiautos, what do I want them for. Like I said before, I view the semiauto as the great equalizer.

Picture yourself down at the old homestead after the fabric of society has become frayed. You’re working out in the garden plot trying to keep the deer from eating you out of house and home when you hear a noise on the wind… Turning toward the sound, you see that there are several men coming through your barbed wire fence line, about 100 yards away. There are also a few others standing menacingly on the other side of the fence. The fact that they are coming through your fence and from a direction that is also a piece of wooded private property means, at a minimum,  they have no regard for property rights. You of course have a handgun on your belt and your trusty rifle leaning against a nearby tree… What happens next? You grab the rifle, right?

Let me ask you, when you reach for that rifle, what do you want it to be? I think the answer is clear… You have at least 6 or 7 strange men on or near your property line and coming your way. You don’t want a short range shotgun or even a 300 winmag to repel this crowd if it comes to that, you want a 30 round magazine full of bad-guy spray! This is what I mean by the equalizer. You’re out there working by yourself or maybe worse under the circumstances, with your wife or daughter. I suggest that to not have an “assault rifle” would be fool hardy.

7 to 1 odds are a long shot under the best of conditions but with 30 rounds of potential, I think we might have a chance! It’s this scenario that I think of when some numb nuts politician wants to deprive me of my ability to repel a deadly threat by attempting to take away my “assault weapons” or even my 30 round magazines for that matter!

I’m confident that you all know these legislative actions against our firearms have exactly ZERO to do with our children’s safety. It’s their own safety that the politicians are concerned with. I don’t really blame them for being concerned, not with the amount of criminal and near criminal activity we continue to catch them participating in!

What doesn’t make much sense to me is that they continue to parade out the “we don’t want to take away ya’lls huntin’ rifles”, just those pesky assault weapons! If these turds had any idea at all about weapons and especially hunting rifles, they would be more concerned about a good old boy with a scoped 30.06 then the scary citizen with an AR15. That 30.06 with only a 4 round capacity has far greater capability to “reach out, reach out and just say die!” I’d wager the hunter has more trigger time logged then the guy that just bought his first “assault weapon”, in reaction to their stupid threats of gun ban legislation!

You see, I don’t want to own an assault weapon for watering that old liberty tree but for making myself better able to repel the “ner’ do well” that comes a visiting after a societal breakdown.

As a prepper, I store up food to have the ability to feed my family. I maintain a supply of water to keep myself clean and hydrated. I attempt to get my home paid off so I reduce the chance of being homeless or without shelter. I own a semiautomatic “assault weapon” to increase my odds in a fight!

I’m a prepper and therefore I will always be prepared!  I’ll always keep on preppin’, cause preppin’ is the answer!
