Jef FayCamping asks: “This question is geared towards EDC or what you would normally have on you. Worst case scenario, whatever it may be, & you are stuck in the woods or had to bug out. What could/would you use all the plastic I.D./Credit Cards for?”
Commenter 1: “Keep one ID card intact and protected. Credit cards can actually be sharpened and used as basic cutting tools such as gutting out a fish or skinning a small animal. If you have a way to cut them, the plastic is strong enough to make fishing hooks or small spear tips.”
Commenter 2: “If you can make a clean cut. Another cutting tool, a type of signaling mirror if you have a reflective security sticker, great for burning to create a black smoke, improvised splint.”
Commenter 3: “You could use them as a eating utensil, as a pressure pad for a trap, you could dig with them in sand or other loose soils, of course if you needed to break into a house, garage, etc… they could help, in a pinch you could place them inside your boot/shoe to make a temporary patch to the soul, you could poke pin holes in to and attach them so that you could wear them like goggles to help see in a white out condition, on sand, etc…”
Commenter 4: “Use them as pressure pads for small animal traps. Useful for birds especially. Do some research on different trap designs and find one where you can insert the card in the trip. Its firm enough to hold your bait and will act as a lever to enact the mechanism. Use a pocketknife to shape as needed.”
