How many of you increase your emergency preparedness in anticipation of winter storms?
A Few Comments:
Check my supply of Ramens and Propane and both kinds of Alcohol
I live in rural South-Central Alaska, so being prepared for our winters is the norm. Plenty of wood for the woodstove (that I can cook on if necessary), 2 & 3 gallon water bottles, soups and stews I’ve already made and frozen, etc. etc. I don’t have to worry about losing the things in my freezers or refrigerator. I have the best sub-zero freezer in the world…the state of Alaska! All I have to do is put my food in a tote to protect it from critters and put it in the shed!
I’m always prepared for winter storms. Growing up in Wisconsin has drilled that into me, but before a blizzard, I do a double check and make sure that everything is good to go. Things I double check: do I have enough gas (in vehicles and in gas cans for snowblowers), do I have stuff to make warming foods like soup (if not I’ll get a chicken and some veggies), do I have yarn for a project to work on (I love knitting and crocheting), and is the firewood in the garage so it’s not wet. I usually plan to stay home when I hear the word blizzard, so I’ll take work home with me in anticipation of it or work longer hours ahead of the storm to make sure my work gets done.
We live on a well so I fill my bathtub with water and stash jugs of water under the sinks. I also have 2 – 55 gal black trashcans filled with rainwater from the roof of the greenhouse. I can do without electricity, but can’t do without potable water
Not so much for winter storms here in South Georgia/ south alabama… We have to be more prepared for hurricanes
We just double check and add anything that was put together for hurricane preparedness. I DO like the suggestion someone made about thermacare heat packs. That’s a super idea and I will add those!!! Thank you.
