Glass beer bottles are plentiful and free, and glass flakes much easier than flint does. Learning the basics on glass makes it easier to transfer these skills to flint. When I was a glass cutter, we called busted edges ”shells” – razor sharp. Shurly they’d be just as good, and a lot simpler to produce.
