(Before It's News)

Osvaldo Collazo, 47, might spend the rest of his life in prison. Did he kill someone? No. Did he harm someone in any way? No.

What he did do was run afoul of Illinois’ repeat DUI offender laws. On Wednesday evening, he was stopped after he was seen weaving in traffic. He admitted to drinking and a Breathalyzer test indicated a whopping 0.213 blood-alcohol content, reports the Chicago Tribune.

Okay, so he was allegedly hammered. It also turns out that he was wanted for a sixth DUI charge. The latest charge is his seventh.

A sixth or subsequent conviction of driving under the influence is a Class X felony here in Illinois. That means he faces a sentence of 6 to 30 years on each charge. Though the Tribune is reporting 30 years total, that seems to be a mistake, as the 30 year maximum is per offense. Collazo is facing two DUIs – his sixth and seventh.

If the judge was having a particularly mean day, he could sentence Collazo to two consecutive 30-year terms. Is that likely? Not at all. Absent death or dismemberment of a third party or passenger, there’s no way the judge is going to sentence him to two consecutive maximum sentences that would release him into the world at the ripe old age of 107.

However, Collazo will be going to prison for a long time if convicted. A similar offender recently was sentenced to 14 years for his sixth DUI, so that should provide some idea of what one of his two sentences will be.

Collazo’s driving privileges will probably be revoked for life.
