There are hundreds of different snow getaways around the world. How do you know which one you should choose? For starters, you need to think about when you will be going, your skill level for winter sports and who you are going with.
Time Of Year
-If you are going around Christmas or New Years, Saas Fe in Switzerland or Alpbach in Austria will provide you with not only a lot of snow, but beautiful scenery as well. Mount Baker in Washington is another great place to go early in the season as it often receives 100 inches of snow by the beginning of December.
-For those that want to go skiing in January or February, Breckinridge in Colorado or Tignes in France are both great choices.
-If you are going late in the season, such as in March or April. Head to Val Thorens in France or Cervinia in Italy. Even this late in the year you are almost guaranteed the chance of seeing snow. Beaver Creek in Colorado often receives snow until the beginning of April.
Skill Levels
–Beginners can have a great time on easy slopes like those at Soldeu in Andorra or Alpe d’Huez in Frane. Big Bear in Bear Valley, California is also a great option as they offer adult group lessons that are geared towards even the most novice of skier.
–Intermediate skiers or snowboarders will love most of the resorts in France like Courchevel or Les Arcs. Sun Valley Ski Resort in Idaho offers a three-lift hill with enough intermediate terrain to practice on until you feel comfortable moving on to other resorts that have more advanced slopes.
–Advanced skiers or snowboarders will love resorts like St. Anton in Austria, Verbier in Switzerland or Charmonix in France. Whistler in Canada has a lot of high bowls that attract advanced skiers from all over the world.
Who You Are Going With
If you plan on going on a snow getaway it’s important to pick one based on who you are going with. If you are going with children, both Wengen in Switzerland and Obergurgl in Austria are very family friendly. Aspen Snowmass is Colorado is also a great option as it has a superb ski school that kids tend to love. If you do plan on traveling strictly with adults, then you can get more adventurous. Courmayeur in Italy is a great option. It’s close to the airport and the slopes tend to be amazing.
