TSA Status dot net is a new website that tells you what airports have scanners, how they are using them, the date of the last status check and other relevant information. Check it out and help them keep you up to date by sending them summaries of what you see on the ground.
For example, there’s a report from ATL from two days ago that says: “Scanners installed in center lane, by choosing far right lane you are blocked by a conveyor belt (“logically impossible to go through the line”) and your chances of being scanned are quite low; you will be scanned in first class lines (shorter line, longer pat down).” That’s a nice tip!
From the website:
What’s the status of the TSA’s new body scanners? They’re not at every airport and they’re not always in use. If you want to avoid the backscatter-radiation security theater or simply don’t want your junk touched, use this list, and let us know any updates or additions. If you have time to kill at an airport, feel free to wander around and check out different checkpoints, and make sure to catch the status on your way out, too. Our five-color scheme is modeled after the highly successful Homeland Security color scheme. Be afraid. Be very afraid. It’s orange out!
