One Up On You
Earlier this week, I was talking to someone who couldn’t wait to share what they knew about someone else. I listened for a little bit and then cut them off because I didn’t see the point. Well, I take that back…I really did see it. It was all because of the One Up mentality. Remember the old school Mario Brothers games where you grab the mushroom and get one up in size? That’s the way many of us treat our lives and interactions with other people. That’s why reality TV has become so overwhelmingly popular now. We look at these people who are 9 times out of 10 acting out a script and think, “My situation isn’t anywhere near as bad as theirs”. So we puff up our chests and feel as though we have a One Up on everyone else. What a mistake we’ve made…
