—————-

I went last evening to see the movie “2016: Obama’s America.” It is based on Dinesh D’Souza’s book “The Roots of Obama’s Rage.” I came away from the movie very unsettled about the future our republic. Given the shallow nature of our civic discourse these days, coupled with the fact that as a recovering candidate for elected office my political ideology is clear, many would assume I was unsettled because of what was presented about President Obama. Those assumptions would be wrong.

I am indeed angry about what was presented about President Obama even though I learned very little about him I didn’t already know. That someone with so spartan a resume, lacking in any meaningful experience and so full of themself could manage to escape any legitimate vetting by the press and become President of the most exceptional country in the history of the world is infuriating. But that has nothing to do with my unsettled feelings.

After seeing “2016″ I am concerned about the future of our republic because it confirms what I have believed for quite some time: America is in the process of committing national social and fiscal suicide. Myriad sociological statistics, a basic understanding of math, and common sense bear witness to that conclusion.

It should be obvious to any objective and critical viewer of the movie, regardless of political ideology, that the attributes that made America exceptional – liberty, freedom, morality, and personal responsibility – are being enthusiastically abandoned in favor of the historically failed idea of collectivism.

Regardless whether you’ve already decided for whom you will vote this November, I encourage you to see “2016: Obama’s America” and afterwards honestly contemplate these two questions:

- do you believe that if we maintain our current social and fiscal course and speed towards a more government-controlled, collectivist nation that our children and grandchildren will inherit a dimished America?

- do you believe the world would be better off with a diminished America?

I am unsettled because the current President of the United States believes the answer to both of these questions to be ‘yes.’

Barack Obama may be the one currently carrying the big drum major baton in his role as President, but We the People do not have to ignorantly, apathetically, compliantly and in near perfect cadence and step follow his lead at our own peril.
