Some areas will receive their first snowfall of the season across the Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeastern United States regions. So let’s go ahead and break-down in some detail on what we will be expecting and what the TriforceWeather.com team of forecasters are putting together for you.
Winter Storm Anthony is the first on the list, and will officially be named should trends continue. Although Anthony will lack a strong surface low inland, a deeper surface low would develop offshore and head toward the Maine area. The state of Maine would no doubt be in the hardest hitting sector of the winter storm and since it will have the criteria for a named storm, Maine may see the first named storm of the 2014-2015 Winter Storm Season. Either most of the state of just the Eastern zones would be in the worst part of the storm. Those are minor details, let’s get onto the detailed maps and discussions for this event.
The snowfall will start across the Great Lakes region of Michigan on Halloween. As the day moves along the colder/drier air would hit the Ohio, Eastern KY, and the mountains of WV/VA/TN/NC. This would set up a convergence zone there later on Halloween (likely the night hours) that will bring the first snowfall of the season there.
I do believe that most of the populated centers of the USA will escape the first snowfall in the region. The ground is still considered warm and even so the snowfall will likely be rainfall for areas such as Richmond, D.C., PHL, NYC, and Boston. However, further north across parts of Northwest NY, Ontario, Canada, most of VT/NH and Maine … we may be looking at snowfall. So with that being said, monitoring the Saturday/Sunday time-frame for snowfall in those areas. The hardest hit will depend on the track of the center of the surface low, which will continue to be monitored by our team. Maine looks to be in the brunt of the system. Even if the system hits a small part of Maine, it will be named and categorized. TriforceWeather.com is not bias on populated zones only getting a name.
Gusty Winds will be likely across the DE, PHL, N, NYC, Long Island, and Southern New England zones. These areas will not see snowfall, just the gusty winds over the weekend. Wind gusts look similar to the last nor’easter, with 30-40 mph wind gusts, sometimes higher near the coast.
