A pattern not seen since the Sunnyvale EF2 Tornado In 1998 across the San Francisco Bay area will hit on Sunday as the last of the storm pattern from this atmospheric river. Tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail will be likely across a large part of the Bay areas to the inner Valleys. Get the details by reading on.
A brief break today with isolated thunderstorms will be possible in the valley areas with instability already developing, however the real event lies on Sunday. Our grids are showing storms capable of producing tornadoes across the San Francisco/Monterey Bay areas, north to Ukiah, and west to Chico/Sacramento. This is an unprescendnted pattern in which a very large upper trough carved due west of the area will bring in all the ingredients needed for tornadoes to develop.
Instability, low level backing shear, strong jet stream in excess of 100 mph, strong upper divergence, and deep-layer moisture. This event has all the ingredients for the need of a tornado watch from us at NationalWeatherForce.com should the atmosphere remain this way in further outlooks.
