Groups of severe thunderstorms with damaging winds, large hail, and even isolated tornado potential will be possible across the entire area, with the best tornado potential within the large polygon region being in Oklahoma, Southwest MO, and Northern AR …

At the current time, thunderstorms developing north of the warm front boundary across Southwest MO and Southeast KS will lift northward producing hail risks across Western MO/Eastern KS so this is why the watch extends that far north … all part in due to better elevated severe storm risks.

For surface-based storms, the storms will pop along the boundaries stretching from Northern TX with isolated cells to more cluster/lines after forming as initial discreet supercells across the Northern half of Oklahoma and possibly Southwest MO … with lines of storms congealing during the evening and heading eastward with time.  A mesolow will form within the warm-front/cold-front boundary somewhere in Northeast OK, Northwest AR, or Southeast MO and this spot seems to be the best risk for tornado chances … but surface thermal factors may limit the potential with more undercutting of the front like we saw yesterday … still isolated tornado risks will remain.

Further east, we’re going to the warm front lifting today across the Northwest TN to Western KY areas, bringing the risk of hail across those areas …
