Tornado causes damage at an Army post in southeast Georgia

A tornado touched down at an Army post in southeast Georgia at about 4:55 p.m Wednesday evening, Fort Stewart emergency officials confirmed.
Around Forty to fifty people have been displaced from the housing areas and are having shelter in Fort Stewart lodging.


According to the National Weather Service, there were reports of a tornado in northeast moving at about 35 mph. Tornado warnings were issued for three counties west of Savannah.

Power outages have been reported for areas in the vicinity of Diamond Elementary School, the North Bryan Village housing area, and portions of the Eisenhower Terrace housing area. No injuries have been reported.
