Certain varieties of Land O’ Lakes Purina poultry feed are being voluntarily recalled due to a lack of Vitamin D. The company says a “formulation software conversion” caused the problem. Birds not exposed to direct sunlight can have bone fractures, joint problems and may die without adequate vitamin D in their diets.
No poultry illnesses have been reported so far. The feed was manufactured between May 23rd and July 20th at Land O’Lakes Purina Feed plants in Milford, Indiana, St. Joseph, Missouri and Nashville, Tennessee. It was sold nationwide under the “Purina” and “DuMOR” brand names.
The company says Vitamin D has been added to the feed since July 20th.
