Sylvia Garcia Identified as California’s ‘Plain Jane Bandit’, Linked to Eight Bank Robberies

California authorities have arrested the prolific bank robber they dubbed ‘Plain Jane Bandit’ and she has been identified as Sylvia Helen Garcia.

Garcia, 38, of Downey, California has been linked to six bank robberies around Los Angeles and two other failed attempted bank robberies in the area.

The robberies began in mid-July whereby allegedly Garcia demanded cash from the bank tellers via a note. At the time, Garcia was driving a silver vehicle that matched the description provided by several witnesses to the bank robberies. Additional evidence tying Garcia to the bank robberies was also recovered during the arrest.

Witnesses had described the suspect as a Latino woman between the ages of 35 – 40 years-old dressed very casually.  One witness when pressed for more details on the robber said ‘she just a plain Jane’ hence the name.

When Garcia was arrested at her ground-floor apartment witnesses observed, according to the Daily News, three children climbing out of the back window and her husband covering his head coming out the front door.
