From NewsDay.com:
The only place one NYPD cop will be watching the Mets play for a while is his couch.
Officer Eduardo Cornejo pleaded guilty Monday to ditching his bleacher seat during a May game against the Reds at Citi Field and sneaking into the Party City deck, just above the leftfield wall.
Cornejo, who was off-duty at the time, was arrested after he ignored security guards’ orders to return to his original seat, according to prosecutors.
Queens Criminal Court Judge Gene Lopez ordered Cornejo, 30, to serve three days community service and banned him from returning to Citi Field for a year. Cornejo also had to pay $120 in court fees.
An NYPD spokesman did not return a message seeking comment about whether Cornejo would be punished for the incident.
Do you think Cornejo will retain his job? Remind yourself, he’s sworn to protect people and their property, yet he has admitted that he not only doesn’t do that, but does the opposite. That’s about the professionalism I’ve come to expect from those employed at the NYPD. -Pete
