NPR’s Here and Now program took a deeper look into the NRA’s longtime advertising agency Ackerman MacQueen.  Far from NYC’s Madison Avenue, the Oklahoma City based agency has been behind the NRA’s public image since the early 1980′s.  It is one of the longest and most successful advertising relationships of it’s kind.  As explained in the piece above Ackerman MacQueen and the NRA ad campaigns have often drummed up controversy, but it is that straight forward targeted messaging that has made their relationship so powerful.  The piece also looks into some of the deeper organizational inner workings of the two groups as well.
