Gun Crime: Man Charged With 14 Felonies And Possible 100 Years After Firing At Neighbors, Kids And Cops

A southern Indiana man is in jail on a $100,000 bail, after allegedly firing shots at cops, kids and some of his neighbors. Local news outlets are reporting that Russell Earling Meserve “faces 13 felony charges following a weekend incident in which police say he shot at numerous officers and bystanders in the neighborhood near Washington Middle School.”

He is charged with six charges of attempted aggravated battery with a firearm, a Class B felony; and seven counts of criminal recklessness, a Class C felony. He faces up to 100 years on all charges.

 
 
 
Murder: 45 to 65 years; 55 is the advisory sentence (IC 35-50-2-3)
Class A Felony: 20 to 50 years; 30 is the advisory sentence (IC 35-50-2-4)
Class B Felony: 6 to 20 years; 10 is the advisory sentence (IC 35-50-2-5)
Class C Felony: 2 to 8 years; 4 is the advisory sentence (IC 35-50-2-6)
Class D Felony: 180 days to 3 years; 1 ½ years is the advisory sentence
