Another Mexican State Bans Use of Circus Animals

The Mexican state of Coahuila has banned the use of animals in circuses or in any other kind of entertainment.

The reform, unanimously passed by the state legislature, prohibits the use of animals in shows or promotional parades, even including the rabbits and doves manipulated by magicians in their sleight-of-hand feats.

The decision of Coahuila lawmakers “vaccinates” society against violent behavior and will avoid future generations seeing animal abuse as normal, Green Party lawmaker Jose Refugio Sandoval said.

Legislators in the northern state left bullfights out of the ban during their review of laws for the protection of animals.

Coahuila thus joins Mexico City and other states like Colima, Guerrero, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Morelos and Queretaro that have banned the use of animals in circuses.
