In a video posted to social media, several officers from the Los Angeles Police Department can be seen harassing a family for a minor that was riding a bike – WITHOUT A HELMET! Apparently all the other ‘crimes’ in America have been solved, corruption in our government and police departments has been eradicated; So now, the cops only have petty, victimless ‘crimes’ to worry about.
Commonsense would dictate that 7 armed policemen is a bit much for handing a non-violent, victimless crime that in reality is a city-code violation and not a criminal act. However, police do what they do best – overreact to any situation that presents itself with as many armed thugs as they can round up.
The video starts off with the police arguing with the videographer. He asks the police why they would be there, giving the kid a ticket. The cop explains that they ‘have the right’ to give the child a ticket, then threatens the man with arrest if he interfered.
As the argument progresses, the cop states that the young man is going to get a ticket “for whatever vehicle code violation”, to which the minor interrupts, “Vehicle code?” The obviously outwitted policemen can only respond “Listen, I’m not going to sit here and explain myself to a juvenile”.
Even though the juvenile comes outside when his mom tells him to, the cops still arrest him. I would like to point out that, regardless of what the cop states, the young man was not on probation. He was not arrested for some arbitrary probation violation, but in reality, he was arrested for not wearing a helmet, riding the bike with no hands, and in the end, making the cop look like the uneducated bully he is.
This is a laughable waste of taxpayer money and should be an embarrassment to the police department. So why would a police department waste that much money on such a petty ‘crime’? Money. Police departments rely on arrests keep a steady flow of money coming in from the City, State, and Federal governments. The jails, of which some of the largest in the Country are privately owned and operated, need a steady flow of fresh souls to fill the beds – the same beds that taxpayer money pays for.
In the end, hundred, if not thousands of dollars will have been spent to take this young man off the streets for riding a “bike without wearing a helmet and riding with no hands”.
