Rather the reverse is true: Far from “entertaining” conflicting or inconsistent thoughts, beliefs or attitudes simultaneously, Apollo’s comment demonstrates a singular mentality — and one, as it happens, apparently rooted in biblical fact. It’s the very opposite of cognitive dissonance.

There is no ark upon this earth anymore, an ark that could have any spiritual or physical power except what a mortal man is able to put on it: mechanical, chemical, electric or nuclear.
