(N.Morgan) Could you imagine if the Earth stopped spinning? It would effect everything as we know it. You would gain weight and the results would be catastrophic. If the Earth stopped spinning, you would become a super sonic tumbleweed. Back in 1978, moviegoers were treated to an amazing sight: Superman reversing the spin of the Earth, turning back time in the process (and saving his beloved Lois). Preposterous, of course, but what if something did change the Earth’s rotation? What if the rotation stopped completely? Let’s get our admittedly far-fetched assumptions on the table. First, let’s assume the Earth stopped spinning gradually, as a sudden deceleration would mean disaster. Second, we’ll suppose that Earth’s ecosystems have survived the transition mostly intact. So what does this new world look like?
For starters, Earth would now take a whole year to do what it pulls off in a day: cycle from night to day and back. Cities would spend half the year in darkness and half the year in full sunlight, just like the North and South Poles do today. And, like the poles, every region would still experience different seasons, but the temperature swings from season to season would be much greater for areas along the equator. An equatorial region would spend infernally hot months very close to the sun, while that area’s global counterpart would spend dark, frigid months very far away from it. That’s trouble for the plants and animals that have adapted to the climate of a region and, consequently, for the people living there as well.
What’s that? You’re relocating to the relatively stable (though still awfully cold) polar regions? Bad move. They’re deep underwater. In fact, the boundaries between ocean and land on a spin-free Earth would look nothing like they do today. Because the Earth rotates, centrifugal force causes the planet to bulge along the equator. No rotation, no bulge. Without that bulge, all of the extra water held in place along the equator would go rushing back toward the poles. Esri, a company that develops geography-focused technology, modeled the world’s land and oceans after its equatorial bulge subsided and found that the Earth would have a band of land — one giant supercontinent — that circles the equator and separates two massive oceans to the north and the south. There would be massive storms, chaos and the Sun would seem to freeze and the days would become 365 day, since day and night come from the spinning of the planet.
“It would effect everything as we know it.” Not wrong there
“You would gain weight” Why The force acting on our bodies is as a result of the mass of the planet and nothing to do with it’s rotation. Or is there some other subtle reason we would gain weight? Such as with constant day or night (depending on what part of the planet you lived) people would be so bored with the lack of diurnal variation we would all sit at home watching TV and eating nothing but potato chips
It is called centrifugal force. If you place an object on the end of a string and begin spinning that object, you would notice that the faster you spun the object the heavier it would become. It is the same as walking around on the top of gigantic spinning ball. The ball (Earth) has gravity and that is undeniable. But by spinning, everything on the surface is effected by centrifugal force and has that effect applied to it by that spinning. Fortunately gravity counteracts the centrifugal force and you don’t fly off into space. Matter of fact the gravitational force of the Earth is much stronger than the centrifugal force generated by it’s spinning. But, let’s say the opposite occurs and the Earth begins spinning faster and faster. At first you would notice that you seem to be losing weight as the centrifugal force begins to negate gravity. At some point the Earth would spin so rapidly that it would zero out gravity, first at the equator and then work its way inward toward the poles as it spins faster and faster. Then you would become essentially weightless. If the Earth continued to spin faster everything not attached upon the surface would be flung of the face of the Earth including the lose soil, bodies of water and even the atmosphere we breath. If the spinning continued to get faster eventually the Earth would separate into large chunks and start flying away from each other until the planet is completely destroyed. But if the Earth just stopped spinning then all you would notice is a weight gain as the natural gravity is no longer in competition with the centrifugal force of a spinning Earth. Does it makes sense to you now? No? Well look at it this way. Earth’s rotation produces centrifugal force that works to offset some of the gravity applied by its mass. Not a whole lot but some. If it is no longer spinning then their is no centrifugal force being applied and your mass (your body) has nothing working on it other than the Earth’s gravity and maybe your nagging spouse, which has a crushing effect all on its own, but that is a different situation in which we can speak of on another day. So without the effect of centrifugal force, yes you would still be the same mass but you, in comparison to the effect of Earth’s gravity would indeed weigh more. If you still do not understand then you will have to find someone else to explain it to you. I have done the best that I can do.
Firstly, let us establish the fact that, apparently unbeknownst to DRAUGR, WBD, and N Morgan, the two words “effect” and “affect” do not mean the same thing. One cannot be used in place of the other. In this particular case, the word we are looking for is “affect”, and not “effect”.
Secondly, the assumption is made that earth is spinning, as if this were a given, so fundamentally obvious as not to require any proof.
But earth is not spinning.
You might like to ask yourself in the first instance, why is it that all the planets are spinning? Is this the logical corollary to the supposed condensation of these bodies from the debris left over from the Big Bang? ( Which is another false assumption; based upon a misunderstanding of Hubble’s Red Shift. ) Why should a condensation of matter under the influence of gravity then go on to produce a spinning phenomenon? Here’s a hint; it won’t.
If earth is spinning, then once you leave its surface, you become independent of the spin. Thus, a flight from Jo’burg to London ought to select a NE trajectory so as to catch up with the eastwardly-disappearing capital of Perfidious Albion. But no, we just fly north. If earth were spinning, then by the time one got to where London had been in the morning, it would have gone around the backside of the earth, and so we should have to meet it by flying over the North Pole, and then back south again. But no, we never have to do this. If earth were spinning, flights E-W should be much faster than the return leg. But no, both legs take the same amount of time, windspeed and directionality being discounted.
Felix Baumgartner took 3 hours to ascend to the edge of space in his balloon; earth should have moved thousands of miles beneath him whilst he was aloft; but no, he landed 12 miles from where he took off.
And so on. If earth were spinning, the inertial effect ( note the correct use of the word here ) should cause the oceans to resist the spin, and so they should rise up into the mother of all tsunamis. Guess what? This is not observed.
The Bible makes it very clear on dozens of occasions that earth does not move. It neither spins on an axis, nor does it orbit the sun. During one of Joshua’s battles in Canaan, he asked the Lord God to stop the sun in mid-heaven for two days; this was done; interestingly enough, several civilizations from S America also have independent records of an equivalent two days of darkness where they were.
Thus, we see that not only do the heavens rotate around us every night, as does the Moon, but also, in order to do this, they must be orders of magnitude closer to us than the rabbis ( they lie behind all of modern astronomy’s greatest fantasies ) have told us.
And why do they lie thus? Huge distances in space equate to huge ages. Galaxies are supposed to be 4.5 billion light years away from us, so this is the age of the universe. In this sort of time span, it is fondly hoped that evolution from slime could have occurred. It could not have, btw, but it makes it look more plausible as a creation scenario.
Everything we have been told is a lie. The sun is not a nuclear fusion reaction held in place by its gravitational force. The blackness of its sunspots reveals that, beneath the surface, the sun is cold and dark. Its energy comes to it from outside, not inside, along the galactic currents of plasma which we can even see as glowing helixes joining one heavenly structure to another. The sun is more akin to a light bulb, which can be switched off by its Creator in a heartbeat.
This, in fact, is what happened during the crucifixion of the Lord Jesus Christ, when a darkness covered the land for three hours. Note that eclipses at most only give totality at any one spot for several minutes at most.
On that central day in all eternity, the entire universe was switched off.
I will throw this one in…..it never started. Everything revolves around the earth. Yes folks, WE are the centre of the universe.
Thankyou HereamI, you have my agreement with your logic. Everything we are taught is a lie. I am so tired of having to make all these quantam leaps in my mind to incorporate the “science” that is not logical. NASA lies about everything. As a matter of fact, I would even go so far as to say that the earth IS ACTUALLY FLAT.
