(Before It's News)

Marco Rubio’s campaign team used a 19-year-old photo of the Clintons as the inspiration for the Florida senator’s online birthday card. The Republican presidential hopeful is among the top contenders in recent polls.

Ahead of his 44th birthday Thursday, Rubio’s campaign account tweeted this to supporters encouraging them to wish the senator a happy birthday:

And some people inevitably wished him a happy birthday:

And the senator expressed his gratitude:

But the card looks eerily similar to the cake former president Bill Clinton enjoyed on his 50th birthday, only 10 weeks before his 1996 re-election. The scattering of ‘50s’ across the blue field on the cake was designed to highlight Clinton’s youthfulness contrasted with his Republican opponent, Bob Dole, a former senator from Kansas. Dole is 23 years Clinton’s senior.

Similarly, Clinton’s wife and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton is 67, 23 years Rubio’s senior.

A RealClearPolitics average of polling data tracking GOP hopefuls has Rubio in third, trailing only former Gov. Jeb Bush of Florida and Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin, respectively.
