After Getting Shot Down By Federal Court, Obama Just Got Slapped Down By Anti-Amnesty Voters

(Before It's News)

Barack Obama’s bad week just got even worse, with a one-two gut-punch against the president’s executive amnesty for illegal immigrants. Tuesday’s federal appeals court ruling upholding the temporary block of Obama’s executive order has now been followed by a new poll showing an increasing number of Americans lining up against an overreaching president’s unilateral action.

As Western Journalism reported yesterday, Obama’s effort to defer deportation and grant certain citizenship rights to millions of illegal immigrants was dealt a stunning setback. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit kept in place a Texas judge’s block on the executive order, marking the second major legal setback for an administration that was bypassing the Congress and charging ahead on its highly controversial program to make sure as many as 5 million illegals are allowed to stay in the U.S. legally.

As might be expected, the administration hasn’t simply said it disagrees with the ruling of the Fifth Circuit; an Obama spokeswoman accused the two judges who kept the temporary stay in place of choosing to “misinterpret the facts and the law.” Obama has long argued that his actions are legal and in keeping with the Constitution — a position that the appeals court ruling sharply challenged.

Now, on top of the judicial problems for Obama’s plan to welcome millions of illegals to America with rights that could see them become a powerful Democrat voting bloc, there’s a big popularity problem for the president and his insistence on pushing forward with amnesty. Results of a new poll just released by Rasmussen Reports pile worse news on top of bad for Obama. More and more likely voters say they oppose Obama’s executive action on amnesty and believe that he has exceeded his authority in trying to impose his will on the American people.

Most voters still oppose President Obama’s plan to exempt up to five million illegal immigrants from deportation, with more than ever saying he doesn’t have the legal authority to take such action.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 56% of Likely U.S. Voters now oppose the president’s plan to allow the illegal immigrants to remain in this country legally and apply for jobs. That’s up from 51% in early February…

In addition, the Rasmussen survey has found that 59% of likely voters now say President Obama does not have the legal power to do what’s he’s trying to pull off — a solid belief that Obama is acting illegally that’s way up from 52% in February and a high to date of those saying the president is acting unconstitutionally.

Not only do these polling figures bode ill for the Obama agenda–they also pose a huge potential problem for 2016 hopeful Hillary Clinton, who has vowed to run to the left of the president in her support for illegal immigrants.
