This News Out Of The State Department Is NOT What Hillary Wanted To Hear…
The United States State Department’s inspector general is set to take a further look at former secretary Hillary Clinton’s personal email server that she used during her time in charge at Foggy Bottom.
“In the past, when faced with employees who were using non-governmental email accounts for government business, the OIG questioned such activities,” State inspector general Steven Linick wrote in a response to Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, The Washington Examiner reported.
“The Senate Judiciary Committee, which has direct legislative jurisdiction over FOIA, needs to have a clear understanding of the effects that these email practices at the State Department have had on FOIA compliance,” Grassley wrote to Linick in March.
The non-partisan group Cause of Action filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request earlier this year seeking documents connected to Clinton’s personal email server. Not much was returned when State responded. The Examiner explains from there:
Just six of those were given to Cause of Action in their entirety, with the others being redacted or punted to the State Department for further review. But the few records that the agency did release had nothing to do with the information requested, and were not even produced during Clinton’s time in office.
The documents provided to Cause of Action included a letter from the Republican National Committee to Linick and several others from prominent GOP senators to the inspector general, all expressing concerns with his reluctance to investigate Clinton’s use of a private server.
Undersecretary of State for management Patrick Kennedy issued a memo in February reminding employees of their “overall records management responsibilities, including email, and issued a director to preserve electronically the email of senior officials upon their departure from the Department.”
Kennedy continued: “We are also conducting a detailed study of email management options for the department and investigating the business implications of implementing a Capstone approach for the automatic capture of senior officials’ email.”
