U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew apparently failed to read his audience recently when he spoke at the Jerusalem Post’s annual conference. In addressing the Jewish audience, Lew attempted to defend the Obama administration’s pursuit of a deal with Iran regarding the latter’s procurement of nuclear material.
Politico reported Lew was heckled and booed by the crowd, interrupting his speech and forcing him to plead with the crowd to let him finish. To former presidential chief of staff John Sununu, the entire ordeal is indicative of the current administration’s failed record.
“It boggles the mind that the Obama administration thought it would be smart to send Jack Lew to talk to this pro-Israel group about the Iran deal,” he said during a recent Fox News Channel appearance. “I cannot imagine a White House that dumb and insensitive.”
Sununu, who served under George H.W. Bush, went on to say the Iran deal would be hard to sell to “any of our allies in the region,” let alone Israel.
“This administration is tone deaf,” he said. “The president has the singular vision of having this deal no matter what; and he is creating a relationship with all our allies in that part of the world that is extremely difficult to deal with.”
Sununu balked at Lew’s insistence that Israel has never had a more diligent protector than the Obama administration.
“Not only have we heard that before,” he said, “this administration seems to think that sweet rhetoric by their own definition will make up for their horrible actions or lack of actions. They think words are more important than the things they do. They have no idea how disappointing what they have been doing is to our allies and how dangerous it has been to the world.”
