Unlike anything Jesus was ever about, Pope Francis III is winning the heart of ‘the world.’ Anyone who is at all familiar with Scripture knows there will be spiritual counterfeits immediately preceding Christ’s return. They will be telling appealing lies and deceiving many. (Matthew 24) Francis’ powerfully authoritative image before a generally Bible-ignorant world is allowing him to preach a gospel and a christ that never existed. And there are indeed, whether you are aware of it or not, other gospels and other jesuses – counterfeits that have no basis in holy Scripture. (2 Corinthians 11:4, Galatians 1:8)
The ‘world’ I refer to is fallen, unregenerate mankind.
The current pope, with all his lavish wealth – and flying around in a church jet the size of the Titanic – bears no resemblance to the formerly impoverished Jesus for whom he claims to speak. How could that ever work?
The Bible, both Old and New Testament, fully documents the FACT that God’s real servants never, in the course of faithfully representing him, win any popularity contests . But because most of our world today knows nothing about the Bible or the hard, uncompromising lives of the men and women mentioned in its pages, we have lost our ability to see as God sees – to be able to discern what is true and what is false.
Jesus never made any effort to make people feel better about themselves, nor did he ever appeal to any government on behalf of the oppressed or underprivileged. His FIRST priority is ALWAYS the salvation of every individual who will hear His message. The threat of a person’s eternal damnation far outweighs the importance of paid bills, regular meals, or even whether the White House is lit up like a gay brothel.
If the world were ever to change, it would have to start in the complete renewal of each individual. But Jesus wasn’t here to change the world. And governments, no matter how powerful or seemingly humane, are in no way involved with the dire conversation GOD – and not some man-made organization – is begging to have with the lost and needy. But because we are, in the scope of eternity, only here for a second, Jesus preached to any crowd before He ever fed them. He didn’t want his listeners physically comfortable. He wanted them primed and on edge in order to receive a sermon that could save their eternal souls.
The touring pope has no agenda even similar to that.
Nevertheless, the world absolutely LOVES the latest Pope Francis. He’s the ‘cool guy,’ the ‘hip-hop pope’! He FINALLY understands and accepts that people just have to be who they are! We LOVE him because he’s a kindly old TOLERANT and ACCEPTING dude who is even telling his own people to ‘lay off.’ But, given our Lord’s qualifying words above, what SHOULD that tell us about him?
There are a lot of Catholics out there who are recoiling at this juncture. Please give me a fair hearing.
In my criticism, I am not discounting the fact that there is and always has been, enveloped within the organization of giant Catholicism, a true family of Christian believers. In fact, some of the most dedicated and spiritually alive Christians have made up a significant portion of its movement and effect throughout history. The Catholic Church’s Christology is still enough intact that it remains possible to know the real Lord, even with all the doctrinal excess baggage that has clouded the simplicity of the true Gospel.
While Pope Francis should be preaching solid, Bible-based wisdom to a spiritually desolate and dying world, he is instead spouting what amounts to fable and conjecture concerning some of the most crucial issues facing mankind. And – THINK ABOUT IT – career politicians LOVE him because he is generally AGREEING with them – aiding and abetting their every cause. HOW DOES THAT COMPARE WITH CAESAR’S RECEPTION OF JESUS?
Francis, regardless of how carefully his church steps in trying to interpret and defend his words, has as much as told the world that: all religions worship the same God, Islam and Christianity hold monotheism in common, global warming and evolution are fact, homosexuality is okay, faith (as the Bible defines it) is optional, Islam is indeed a religion of peace, and other blatant heresy and hypocrisy. And, by making such statements, he suggests that God, over time, actually changes His mind or is somehow different than what the Bible represents. But, despite all this church’s political power, their vast wealth, and their current pope’s doddering, grandfatherly demeanor and splendorous raiment, those ideas are just lies. Period.
No matter how dedicated you may be to the Catholic Church, the fact remains that Pope Francis III is fast becoming everybody’s buddy. It’s because he’s good at not offending people. It’s because he’s presenting a gospel that absolves the sinful – at no cost or obligation to them. It feels good because it appears to open a way for some fast, easy peace, prosperity and security for our perpetually troubled and bankrupt world. But, if you can clear your mind of all the hooplah and flash of the big plane, jeweled crosses and white robes – long enough for reality to sink back in … he is wasting precious time with more empty words.
As it pertains to your salvation, don’t EVER expect the Almighty to say: “Who am I to judge?”
