(Before It's News)

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush was apparently looking for every advantage he could get in the second Republican presidential debate.

While the GOP candidates lined up for a pre-debate photo opportunity for journalists, the 6’3″ Bush was seen arching up on his tiptoes multiple times, causing him to physically tower even more over his rival candidates, and most particularly Donald Trump to his immediate right.

The Daily Mail pointed out that Bush also appeared to try to dominate the shot, by stretching his arms out more than the other candidates, taking up more room in the middle. Whether his actions were just the result of someone who likes more physical space, with perhaps some pre-debate jitters, or something more calculated is not clear.

Bush was clearly trying to outdo his performance in the first Republican debate in August, which was widely panned. The former frontrunner, who is now coming in third in polling at 9 percent (behind Trump at 27 and Carson at 24 percent) came out swinging at Donald Trump. Bush hit the billionaire candidate on his support for Democrats in the past, trying to set up a gambling casino in Florida, as well as trying to force The Donald to apologize to the governor’s wife, Columba.

Trump for the most part did not take the bait. Regarding giving to Democrat candidates in the past, particularly former New York Senator Hillary Clinton, Trump said: “I was a businessman, I got along with Clinton, I got along with everybody. That was my job, to get along with people.”

As for gambling, the two had the following interchange:

BUSH: When he — and he — when he asked — when he asked Florida to have casino gambling, we said no.

TRUMP: Wrong.

BUSH: We said no. And that’s the simple fact. The simple fact is —

TRUMP: Don’t make things up. Jeb, don’t make things up. Come on.

BUSH: Don’t cut me off.

TRUMP: Don’t make things up.

Regarding apologizing for his suggestion that Bush took a softer stance on immigration because of his Mexican-American wife, Trump said: “Well, I have to tell you, I hear phenomenal things. I hear your wife is a lovely woman.” Bush pushed again for an apology, but Trump responded: “No, I won’t do that, because I’ve said nothing wrong.”

Trump had stated during in July: “If my wife were from Mexico, I think I would have a soft spot for people from Mexico.”

The billionaire candidate actually paid Bush a compliment early on in the debate last night, when former governor interrupted him multiple times. “OK, more energy tonight. I like that,” said Trump drawing laughter from the crowd.

  • This nation is run by idiots.

    • A good reflection of the majority of the population, although i assume there are some good ones

  •

I used to laugh when my ex-husband would do this in crowds. I knew what he was doing with his 6’2, muscular frame.

It worked, too. The crowd would usually part and give us the room he demanded without his ever losing his pirates smile.

  • Height doesn’t make a man. In this case it shows a manchild.
