In anticipation of the second Republican presidential debate, unconventional front-runner Donald Trump has made a few requests of the host network he predicts will benefit from his participation.
In a letter to CNN President Jeff Zucker, he took credit for the first debate’s unprecedented boom to Fox News as well as a significant bump in advertising rates for subsequent debates.

“Over the weekend,” Trump wrote, “it was announced by numerous entertainment channels and magazines that your ad rates have gone from $5,000 to $200,000, or a 4,000% increase. Since then I have heard that your rates will go even higher.” Insisting that he is not a braggart, he then went on to contend that “this tremendous increase … is due 100% to ‘Donald J. Trump.’”

Citing his ostensible role in securing those additional advertiser dollars, Trump felt it appropriate to determine what CNN should do with them.
“I am self funding my campaign,” he wrote, “—I do not want money from lobbyists, donors or special interest groups. Likewise, you should view the second debate broadcast as a public service and not accept the massive profits that this airing will generate.”
Instead, Trump suggested, the network should divide the money between several veterans groups of his choosing.
“The veterans of our country,” he wrote, “our finest people, have been treated horribly by our government and it’s ‘all talk and no action’ politicians.”
He contended that service members are treated “worse, in many cases, than illegal immigrants.”
Trump earned some praise by those who felt his request could reveal what type of person Zucker is.

Some critics saw it as a publicity stunt, however, with a few suggesting the letter actually revealed Trump’s true nature.
