As is common on the ABC daytime series, ideologies clashed during a recent taping of The View.
In a discussion of pop star Justin Beiber’s recent interview, in which he proclaimed a renewed commitment to his Christian faith, co-host Michelle Collins lambasted the young man heretofore known for often outlandish public behavior.
Collins’ criticism, however, was countered by co-host Candace Cameron-Bure.
“I think it’s important to remember,” she cautioned, “that when someone says they’re a Christian, it doesn’t mean they’re perfect. They’re just a recognized sinner in need of God’s grace; and so that’s all Justin is saying.”

Her defense evoked a rousing applause from the studio audience and kind words from a number of the show’s critics.

Collins shot back with supposed evidence that Beiber is “a little cocky” in describing his faith. She cited one comment specifically, in which “he says ‘If God is for me, who can be against me?’” Cameron-Bure easily deflated that argument with a simple fact. “That’s in the Bible,” she asserted.

The news obviously surprised Collins, who believed the remark was simply the musing of a cocky star.
“He did not source the Bible, America,” Collins responded. “I just want you to know, I didn’t know that. I thought he said it, and I thought, ‘That’s a little strange.’”
