Big-Time Hollywood Actress Comes Out With Startling Statement On Gender Pay

(Before It's News)

A-list entertainers have spoken out recently against what they perceive as gender-based wage inequality within Hollywood and throughout American society. Last month, Jennifer Lawrence made headlines by comparing her earnings for work in the film American Hustle to those of her two leading male co-stars.

Actresses including Sandra Bullock were quick to endorse Lawrence’s stance.

Though her argument superficially exposed institutional sexism at play in the entertainment industry, a closer examination of the relevant details belies such an allegation. While Lawrence did earn roughly half the salary of the film’s leading men, she actually spent fewer than half as many days on the set. Based on daily earnings, she brought home more than either actor.

The “wage gap” narrative remains a hot topic of discussion among the celebrity class, though at least one prominent actress is repulsed by its very mention.

“I’m having such a problem with these conversations,” Kate Winslet recently acknowledged. “Because they keep coming up – and I understand why they are coming up – but maybe it’s a British thing, I don’t like talking about money.”

She went on to say that the “vulgar” topic makes her feel “uncomfortable.”

As for the actresses who claim they are treated unfairly during the negotiation phase, Winslet has little sympathy.

Not only has she never felt discriminated against based on her gender, she concluded that “if I’d ever been in that situation, I would have either dealt with it or removed myself from it.”
